Men Honghua and Qiu Huafei are awarded the title of Advanced Individuals in Scientific Research of Tongji University in the 13th Five-Year Plan period
In January 2021, the Office of Research Administration and the Office of Humanities & Social Sciences, Tongji University organized the selection of advanced individuals in scientific research during the 13th Five-Year Plan period. And 77 individuals were awarded the honor.
Amongst, Men Honghua and Qiu Huafei, from the School of Political Science & International Relations, were named Advanced Individuals in Scientific Research.
About the Professors
Men Honghua, Distinguished Professor, Dean of the School of Political Science & International Relations and President of the Institute for China & World Studies, Tongji University, Director of Tongji Base for Research on International Governance of Cyberspace under the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) & the Ministry of Education (MOE), recipient of the titles of a leading talent in Philosophy and Social Sciences of the national "Ten Thousand Talents Program" and a cultural figure & a talent in the "Four Talent Programs" of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, a chief expert in the Central Marxist Theory Research and Construction Project, and an expert enjoying special allowance of the State Council. Professor Men is engaged in the research of international relations theory, grand strategy theory, comparison of major country strategies, and the history of Chinese strategic thought. So far, he has led two key projects for major subjects in philosophy and social sciences of MOE, three projects of the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC), and more than 40 other research projects. His publications include 15 Chinese and English monographs such as China's Grand Strategy - A Framework Analysis, 16 translated books including Power and Interdependence, and more than 50 edited or co-authored books like China Changes the World. Also, he has published over 160 academic papers on journals such as Social Sciences in China (SSIC). He has won many honors and awards, including Top Ten Outstanding Graduate Student of Peking University, the first prize of Scientific Research Excellence Award and the first prize of Teaching Excellence Award of Party School of the CPC Central Committee, an Outstanding Teacher with Moral Excellence and the first prize of Talent Cultivation Award of Tongji University, the first prize of Shanghai Award for Outstanding Achievement in Philosophy and Social Sciences, the second and third prizes of the MOE Award for Outstanding Achievement in Scientific Research (Humanities and Social Sciences) of Higher Education Institutions.
Qiu Huafei, Professor & Doctoral Supervisor of the School of Political Science & International Relations, Tongji University, an owner of the title of Shanghai Pujiang Talents, an evaluation expert for major projects of the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC), an evaluation expert of the National Publication Foundation, and an evaluation expert of the China Scholarship Council (CSC). His concurrent posts include Vice President of Shanghai Institute for International Strategic Studies (SIISS), Executive Director of the National Association for Studies of International Politics in Universities and Colleges, and Executive Director of the Shanghai Institute for International Studies. Professor Qiu was a Fulbright senior visiting scholar at the Department of Political Science, State University of New York (SUNY), a senior research fellow at the Department of Political Science, University of Chicago, and a senior visiting scholar at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), the Johns Hopkins University. He has long been engaged in the studies of China-US relations, Chinese diplomacy and China studies. He has so far presided over more than 10 projects at or above the provincial or ministerial level, including major projects supported by the NSSFC and major late-stage funding projects in philosophy and social sciences by MOE. He has published 8 monographs including China's Neighborhood Diplomacy and Sino-U.S. Relations in the Transition of International Order, and more than 100 papers in domestic and foreign academic journals. He has won the second prize of Shanghai Award for Outstanding Achievement in Philosophy and Social Sciences, and the second prize of Shanghai Award for Outstanding Achievement in Research and Publicity of the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics.
